Lady Beetle Larva - Harmonia axyridis

Lady Beetle Larva - Harmonia axyridis
Beavercreek, Greene County, Ohio, USA
May 22, 2013
There were many lady beetle larvae on Physocarpus opulifolius 'Dart's Gold' (a gold-leaf cultivar of Eastern Ninebark), and indeed throughout my garden. Most run around madly on leaves and stems, presumably searching for aphids. But occasionally I see one apparently feeding on pollen and/or nectar, remaining still for minutes at a time with its face buried in a flower. Do lady beetle larvae occasionally feed on such plant material?

Harmonia axyridis
This is Harmonia axyridis. I don't know about diet. This species is normally a predator.

Thank you
for the ID, John. By far the most common adult lady beetle in my garden, so no surprise this is also the larval form I am seeing. I'll ask on the forum about diet.
