Feather, this is a female
...as indicated by the long tapering ovipositor. Snakeflies are among my faves...they have personality and I find them very endearing :-) Also a very ancient group, apparently much more diverse in times past and somewhat relictual now.

Looks like she was visiting flowers of Heracleum.
