Black Swallowtail egg - Papilio polyxenes

Black Swallowtail egg - Papilio polyxenes
Parkwood, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
September 16, 2006
Size: 1 mm
I do not see any images here of the egg of this species. I saw a female Black Swallowtail flutter down and lay this egg on cultivated carrot, Daucus carota. I brogught the leaf in and will attempt to rear the caterpillar.

thank you!
There are some mystery eggs on parsley in my yard and I suspect they are Black Swallowtail. I've been looking for images. Thank you.

How did the rearing attempt go for you?

Rearing results
I got two chrysalises and one emerged far too early (November), though it was a beautiful male, and the other came out in spring, a female, and I released it. I have not posted photos of these because we have plenty of photos of Black Swallowtails.

I'm waiting on 4 larvae now,
I'm waiting on 4 larvae now, from 2nd to 4th instars at present, and have been informed that in my area (NE Minnesota) Old World Swallowtail is a rare possibility as well. I'm pretty sure mine are Black but I will continue to hope for successful metamorphosis in any case. And not spam with photos if they are "just" Black. ;)
