what is the common and scientific name for this bug? - Lytta auriculata - Male Female
Joshua Tree National Park, San Bernardino County, California, USA
I need to find out the scientific and common name of this bug for a project. It was photographed in Joshua Tree National Park. It looks like they are mating. This picture was taken in late spring/early summer. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I agree with Joyce on the Identification. It is a very common species in that area. The cactus if you are interested is Opentia basilaris. Yes they are mating.
