Rove Beetle - Philonthus rufulus - female

Rove Beetle - Philonthus rufulus - Female
Townsend, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
June 5, 2013
Size: 6mm
Found by splashing water on the sand at the edge of a stream.

Philonthus rufulus Horn, female
Moved from Philonthus. Tentatively ID'd from specimen, now a photo-voucher. Thanks Tom.

Smetana's key starts heavily using male genitalic characters at couplet 76, so it is more difficult with a female. But I feel fairly confident this is a darker color form of P. rufulus Horn.

Philonthus, needs to be scope
Philonthus, needs to be scoped for species,
