Hungry Caterpillar - Estigmene acrea

Hungry Caterpillar - Estigmene acrea
Spring, Harris County, Texas, USA
June 6, 2013
Size: two inches
Yellowish body w/dark brown speckles on body. Base of "fur" is gold color - is long & almost gray. Face appears to be almost solid black/dark brown. Measures two inches and has been seen on our African iris the whole day. Moves quite fast from flower stem to flower stem. Can someone help me identify this caterpillar? This is one of three pictures being posted. Thank you.

Salt Marsh Moth cat…
See reference here.

Salt marsh moth????
I notice the body of "my" caterpillar is lighter than the salt marsh moth. I am having my doubts about this call. But thanks, Ross Hill

Variable...
There is a lot of variability in the larval form of this species. You have to look at other features as well such as the head capsule and setal length, for example.

other factors ..........
I am new to this, Ross but thank you. I will keep an open mind. I enjoy photographing bugs.
