5mm coppery hister beetle - Saprinus

5mm coppery hister beetle - Saprinus
Organ Mountains foothills, Doña Ana County, New Mexico, USA
August 12, 2006
Size: about 5 mm
Absolutely horrid image of this largest coppery hister beetle from my New Mexico trip. Sometimes I lose track of which beetles in my light arena have been well-photographed, obviously the case here. Here is a shot of it, along with two black hister beetles, cropped from a much larger image of the entire light arena bottom that I like to capture in case I fail to shoot a beetle next to the millimeter rule.

This beetle seemed more elongate in shape than the smaller coppery ones. Collected from pitfall trap baited with rotting jackrabbit guts. Specimen now at New Mexico State University, located in Las Cruces.
