Zonitis atripennis

Zonitis atripennis
1.5 mi. e. Lida, Esmeralda County, Nevada, USA
July 13, 2011
Size: 8.5 mm
det. B.Barnd

just a note
The specimen you had sent me has the tips of the elytra black, thus Z. atripennis terminalis; if this is the same species, it would be Z. atripennis flavida.

Z. atripennis
My remaining three specimens have characters mentioned in the keys, and although difficult to see here; dark marking at or near tips.

Interesting. It was a few yea
Interesting. It was a few years ago, but I think all the Zonitis I got on that trip were from only one or two bushes. I'm thinking species variation, but I'm not the one to say. It COULD be a different species so perhaps genus level will suit it better till I'm confident enough to correctly id it.

check the key
If you get a chance, try the key in Enns 1956; I'd leave it here for now as it's more than likely the same thing

I will have to bring the little guy
with me the the Bean Museum on Monday. I've never attempted this key, but now sounds like a good time to try it.
