Male Halictid? - Halictus rubicundus - male

Male Halictid? - Halictus rubicundus - Male
Seattle, King County, Washington, USA
August 9, 2006
I was watching Green Metallic Bees and waiting for one to stop moving for a moment when this guy came by. I wasn't sure it was even a bee until I was looking at this guide and saw one from Victoria, BC. It would be really cool if someone could ID it, but I realize that the photos aren't really that clear (and I don't remember how big it was).

Thanks
Thank you both, I'm learning a lot from this site! I had thought that it was some kind of sawfly, because it didn't look right in the abdomen for a bee (I didn't realize how many bees have males that last for any length of time). It's like going to school, except there are no walls to separate all the people with the different viewpionts and backgrounds.

Lasioglossum sp.? (Halictidae)
male.

I think you're right...
Of course I don't have very many resources, yet to check on ID's. I will keep this in the Halictidae page for the time being, though.

Wrong.
I'd be willing to put money on Halictus as the genus. Most Lasioglossum males are much smaller, with at least a trace of a metallic lustre.

1/2 wrong, 1/2 right
Many Lasioglossum have no metallic lustre whatsoever, and many Lasioglossum (Lasioglossum) are rather large. However I do think this is a Halictus rubicundus as the hair bands appear to be apical
