Young Grasshopper - Ellipes californicus

Young Grasshopper - Ellipes californicus
Mission Viejo, Orange County, California, USA
June 17, 2013
Trabuco Creek north of Crown Valley

Almost certain that this is californicus based on pronotal pattern and overall pale coloration compared to the other few species. I think the position of the antenna is obscuring the true number of segments

Moved from Ellipes.

Based on there being 10, not 11, antennae segments
It seems it must be E. minutus.

Moved from ID Request.

Something like this?

Looks good. If so, a first for California.
.

Wow! Never saw anything remotely like it.
A good day for odd hoppers in OC. I shot a pygmy grasshopper at Santiago Oaks.
