OOOPS Bromius obscurus
Oops I got this species wrong. I thought it was a Xanthonia even though it didn´t look quiet like the others, but I overlooked the red version of the introduced Bromius obscurus
see here: http://www.biol.uni.wroc.pl/cassidae/European%20Chrysomelidae/Iconography/Bromius%20obscurus.jpg
Boris can you move this one and the other two to Bromius
Sorry!

I moved them to genus, Rob.
Should I create a page for obscurus also and move them there?

I take over
I think that is what Rob suggested to do - and no second species is listed for North America also.
Funny, that you have the bicoulored form - I never found one of these in Germany, but only the completely black ones. Favorite hostplant in europe is fireweed (Epilobium angustifolium), and that is perhaps what we see here, too.

Bromius obscurus
yes it´s funny they are bicoulered. I also only knew the black version till I saw the photos on Lech Borowiec´s excellent site yesterday. I think it is the only species in europe too (monotypical genus??)

Eumolpinae
Although a nice shot, it is hard to see many of the important characters on this beetle (like the tarsi). I´m pretty sure however it in a oval leafbeetle; subfamily Eumolpinae of Chrysomelidae
