Ten-Lined June Beetle (polyphylla decemlineata) - Polyphylla decemlineata Albuquerque (La Vega Drive), Bernalillo County, New Mexico, USA July 15, 2006
This Ten-Lined June Beetle made an appearance on my uncle's back porch, causing a few screams among kids and women. He flew into a wood plank and knocked himself silly, making it easy for me to photograph him without harming him or killing him. We let him go back into the yard after making sure he could fly. I set him on a black leather folder, which helped his colors show up better. I also like this photo best because the lighting shows the shadowing of his antennae, which let you see the gaps, something normally missed by the common observer.
