Scaphoideus nymph
The hind legs indicate a leafhopper, and the large tail spines are characteristic of the genus Scaphoideus. It would be helpful to know what plant you found it on, and whether adults are present by now.

Visited the spot again this afternoon and I'm fairly certain this hopper was on a smilax leaf. lots of other vegetation in the area too. I haven't seen any more hoppers in the area since. Thanks for the help on this one!

This one was so tiny, with the naked eye it looked tan - never noticed all the detail until I looked at the photos on the computer screen. I'm curious which leafhopper this may be?
