Tawny Mole Cricket - immature - Neoscapteriscus vicinus

Tawny Mole Cricket - immature - Neoscapteriscus vicinus
Gainesville, Alachua County, Florida, USA
September 24, 2006
Size: 30 mm
I found this scuttling along the sidewalk this morning. I spent the better part of the day, in short sessions, trying to photograph and key it out. The short wings threw me off for a while, but claw shape led me to Tawny Mole Cricket, and once I had decided on that I discovered the pronotum pattern matches the UF diagram perfectly.

I was bitten once while I was handling this guy . The bite was startling rather than painful, and didn't break the skin.
