Wasp - Scolia bicincta

Wasp - Scolia bicincta

Nectaring on Late-flowering thoroughwort. I thought perhaps Scolia bicincta but it has too much white.

Moved
Moved from Scolia. This is not a very diverse genus, and I believe Scolia bicincta is the only possibility. Interesting variant, with the extra band.

Thanks
Patrick

This could nonetheless...
be Sc. bicincta. It is not unusual for some males to have "extra" light stripes or spots in some species of this genus. More rarely, the reverse is true, i.e. males tend to have less yellow or white. On the other hand, a closely related species cannot be excluded.

Thanks
Richard. Nice to hear that my recursive logic is not uniquely my own. :)
