Big Fly - Cuterebra

Big Fly - Cuterebra
Pima Canyon, Santa Catalina Mts., Pima County, Arizona, USA
September 25, 2006
Size: ~15-18mm
Biggest fly I've ever seen. This brute was nearly the size of a good-sized bumblebee. Wish I'd been able to get more detail - he was very dark. Pretty distinct beast - any ID suggestions?

Definitely a botfly (Oestridae). Likely a Cuteribrine Rodent Bot (Subfamily Cuteribrinae). You are lucky to see an adult!
