Black Saddlebags Perched - Tramea lacerata - male

Black Saddlebags Perched - Tramea lacerata - Male
San Antonio area, Bexar County, Texas, USA
August 31, 2006
I always see these flying overhead while I'm shooting other species and rarely see them land except for occasionally in the branches of a tree high overhead and out of range. For some reason this specimen kept perching and about the time I would get close enough for my camera to get a shot, another one would pass by and he would fly up to meet him in mid air.
After several attempts, this guy paused on a perch just long enough for me to get a few quick shots, then went back to the never ending flight patterns they exhibit continuously. I felt lucky to come away with about three usable images. Here is the best of the three.
