Cricket just emerged from crevice - Velarifictorus micado - Male
New York City, Central Park, New York County, New York, USA
September 25, 2006
Size: maybe an inch
We heard this cricket loudly singing inside a crevice in the stairs to Shakespeare Garden--at about 9 pm, then, using a twig, coaxed it out for a very brief appearance. Would like to know the species.

Thought this was a Miogryllus; however,
It has the huge jaws of the Asian species. Didn't know it was as far north as New York, but it's definitely this species - Velarifictorus micado. Compare with this one.

Moved from Eastern Striped Cricket.
