J & J were on the right track in their comment below. Although your individual here is a much more saturated orange the female they thumbnailed...this definitely keys to M. pantherinus, which is described as a variable species (and is the only described species that ranges into CA and fits your post here). I can't discern enough detail of the terminalia to be certain, but I'm pretty sure this is a female.
