Fast Red-marked Ground Spider - Castianeira descripta

Fast Red-marked Ground Spider - Castianeira descripta
Fairfield, Somerset County, Maine, USA
July 5, 2013
Size: +/-8mm body
I found this while weeding/watering in the garden. It was much too fast to get many good shots, but hopefully it can be identified from these two.
I do have a side shot as it scurried up a boulder, but it doesn't seem like it would help.

It was about the size of an eastern parson's spider, maybe a little larger...

Maine Castianeira
In Maine you should have C. longipalpa, C. descripta, & C. cingulata.

C. variata and C. gertschi could possibly have extended their ranges that far north.

It isn't cingulata or gertschi based on pattern. I doubt it's variata or longipalpa based on pattern/range. So that leaves descripta.

Thanks a lot for the i.d. and information.
