ants with aphids - Aphis

ants with aphids - Aphis
Cross Plains, Dane County, Wisconsin, USA
September 26, 2006
I found these tiny ants tending some eggs along with another tiny insect on the underside of a leaf. The eggs are very small, probably no more than 1-2mm in length.

Lasius alienus?
Could these ants be of the species Lasius alienus? I read that ants of the species Lasius commonly farm aphids.

Your eggs
have eyes and legs!! We would suggest aphids for both the nymphs (not eggs) and the black winged adult.

Thanks!
Thanks for noticing that these were aphids not eggs. I didn't take that close a look when I sent in the photo.

yes, but
what about the ants, very interesting looking.
