Neocicada hieroglyphica? - Neocicada hieroglyphica

Neocicada hieroglyphica? - Neocicada hieroglyphica
Valdosta, Lowndes County, Georgia, USA
July 5, 2013
Three images will be submitted with this cicada. If I was a dude who trusted his gut, I'd flat out say this is the Hieroglyphic cicada, Neocicada hieroglyphica -- BUT, if I've learned anything in my life, it's that I'm often wrong when it comes to my guts and arthropods. This little cicada was bunkered down on my back patio late at night. Just chillin' out. I have seen Hieroglyphics in this area before, but this one was a bit darker and redder than I'm used to. So, what do you think, you cicada masters of bugguide? I'm I on the right track? Or am I, once again, slamming into a brick wall? Your help would be much appreciated! (Lots of oaks *and* pines all around my neighborhood, by the way).
