Wandering Glider - Pantala flavescens - female

Wandering Glider - Pantala flavescens - Female
San Antonio area, Bexar County, Texas, USA
September 27, 2006
I've looked at dozens of images and finally decided this is a male Wandering Glider. However, I'm still learning here, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Very close
It's a female (no epiproct and no genital bump under base of abdomen).

Thanks Cliff
Ahh ok . . . well at least I'm getting closer. I got in the right neighborhood this time anyway . . . lol

After watching this one making her rounds for about 15 minutes, she finally perched on a branch about 10 feet off the ground . . . I had to climb up on some brush I have piled up on my back fence line to get close enough to take these pics . . . I realized that may be my only chance so I went ahead and tried it and it paid off. I was surprised she let me get that close and get a few shots before taking off for the brush out back.

Today must have been my lucky day . . . I posted a couple photos earlier of some I took, just before I took these shots, of a pair of Black Saddlebags hooked up on a small weed just beyond my property. That was a first for me, and only the second time I've been able to get that close to Black Saddlebags. :)
