Mutillid 3 - Dasymutilla quadriguttata - female

Mutillid 3 - Dasymutilla quadriguttata - Female
4 miles West of Winnsboro, Wood County, Texas, USA
June 12, 2013
Size: ~ 12.5 mm
Yet another mutillid caught in the same area as the previous two, this one is a Dasymutilla quadriguttata I believe. Also of note I have quadriguttatas from this area of variable sizes, from this 12.5mm down to 7.5mm, is this normal?

Velvet ants can vary considerably in size within a species, even at the same site. The size of the host determines the size of the mutillid, so variable sizes indicates several hosts are being utilized.
