Emerald Ash Borer emergence hole in Fraxinus pennsylvanica (Green Ash) at a strip mall in Beavercreek, Ohio showing the D-shape (curved on one side and flat on the other). In this thin-barked tree one can see where the larva was tunneling under the bark feeding on the phloem under the exit hole.
