Egg sac found on back of hosta leaf

Egg sac found on back of hosta leaf
Nassau, Rensselaer County, New York, USA
July 7, 2013
Size: Diameter of a nickel
Found this in my flower bed. Closest egg sac I could find was brown widow. No spider seen. The ball had a spiky appearance to it.

Moved
Moved from Unidentified Eggs and Egg Cases.
Not brown widow, but possibly something in the same family (Theridiidae).

Moved from ID Request.
