Brown Wireworm - Orthostethus infuscatus

Brown Wireworm - Orthostethus infuscatus
Parkwood, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
June 30, 2006
Size: 27 mm
Found at a light, captured, and length measured. This might be a male--the antennae are much more fan-shaped (flabellate) than the other individuals I have seen:

Originally believed to be a Neotrichophorus, now identified as Orthostethus infuscatus--see comments.

Moved
Moved from Neotrichophorus.

Orthostethus infuscatus
Orthostethus infuscatus occupies the same basic region of the country as Neotrichophorus carolinensis. Unfortunately, I do not have a specimen of N. carolinensis. The pictures I can find of the types of most of the other species in this genus do not resemble the specimen pictured, and most are not large beetles. When I compare my specimens of Orthostethus infuscatus to your excellent pictures they match in every respect (including the antennae). So I have to assume that these are Orthostethus infuscatus.

Thanks, will fix
Oh, very interesting! Thanks, I'll relabel and move these all in the the next day or so.
