Unknown dragonfly - Libellula luctuosa

Unknown dragonfly - Libellula luctuosa
Near town of Haliburton on date listed. Same species seen at Fletcher Lake NE of Dorset on 07/07/2013, Haliburton, Ontario, Canada
July 2, 2013
Size: medium sized dragonfly
I had never seen this species before in a lifetime of watching dragonflies and damselflies in Ontario. For years I have found "The Dragonflies and Damselflies of Algonquin Provincial Park" adequate for identifying any ephemeroptera I came across in Central Ontario, but this species is not in the field guide. So I was even more astonished to see the same unfamiliar species again a few days later and an hour's drive away at my family cottage. A friend suggested Miathyria marcella, but the wing markings here are larger and more distinct; the thorax is shaped differently and the bright yellow colour goes all the way up it. Anyway, I wonder whether this is a species that has moved into the region. The first one I saw was at the margin of a large playing field by deciduous forest. The second I saw was at the edge of a lake in dense mixed forest.
