Spilopteron - Spilopteron occiputale - female

Spilopteron - Spilopteron occiputale - Female
Gainesville, Alachua County, Florida, USA
May 24, 2013
Size: 25 mm +/-
Some sort of Ichneumon? Blacklighted.

Moved
Moved from Spilopteron.

Hind coxae are more red-orange (versus black and dark red), facial markings don't extend far behind the eyes, and the overall body isn't as red-marked as typical of S. vicinum. This is fairly far north for Florida and really isn't far at all from verifiable S. occiputale.

Moved
In the 1960 revision by Townes and Townes, there are no Florida records for any species of Spilopteron, but Taxapad has a record for vicinum, which is probably what this individual is.

Moved from Ants, Bees, Wasps and Sawflies.
