Moved from Dot-tailed Whiteface. Again we'll move this up to family to try to get confirmation, but we don't know of any Leucorrhinia that look like this. The wing pattern makes us think maybe Libellula luctuosa but we can't be certain at this distance and in this light. Let's see what others have to say.

can't help but wonder what leads to the Dot-tailed Whiteface ID. That species has not been recorded in Alabama; closes area where it occurs are apparently in Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. Best match I can figure is Widow Skimmer but the lighting is so harsh that not much is visible.
