Swallowtail - Papilio glaucus - female

Swallowtail - Papilio glaucus - Female
Ridgely, Maryland, USA
June 22, 2006
This Swallowtail's markings have me really confused. They don't look quite like any images I've got in my keys. The black banding on the upper wings seem to be way more thick than similar images I see in my various keys. Could this be some color variation of something very common? Any ID help would be appreciated. There is a second image with a bit different visual angle. Thanks.

Fantastic!
If I am correct, this is a new category for me! It appears to be an intermediate between the dark and light form female Papilio glaucus (Tiger Swallowtail).
Compare with the dark form here: , Then look up and compare with BugGuide images of the light form.

I don't know...
but that was my first reaction on seeing the photo too. Fascinating!

I'll try to see if anything is known about the genetics of the two forms which only appear in the females, as I understand it.
