Convincing Ant Mimic

Convincing Ant Mimic
Near Ruraldale, Upshur County, West Virginia, USA
September 30, 2006
Size: 7.6 mm
I was shocked to look in the viewfinder and see the little wing pads, and realize this was not an ant. This enlarged picture looks pretty ant-like, but from a distance there was no doubt in my mind this was an ant.

I think I have the family right, but as always, ID comments are appreciated. I am thinking this may be a species where adults have under-developed wings, but then again, it is possible this is a juvenile. Comments on that question will be appreciated too.

It´s in the wrong family!
guess, by mistake :-)

Alydus
Looking at a lot of photos of bugs in this family, this seems to match genus Alydus. Do folks agree; should I move it there?
