promethea moth - Callosamia promethea - female

promethea moth - Callosamia promethea - Female
Epping, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, USA
July 16, 2013
Size: Wingspan here is 8.3 cm
I believe this moth is the tulip-tree silkmoth (Callosamia_angulifera) and not a promethea moth (Callosamia promethea).

Would someone please tell me which species this moth is?

The moth was attracted to a black light set up in my backyard.

Thanks,
Siobhan

Moved- promethea
Moved from Callosamia.

This is a very bright female, but it's C. promethea not C. angulifera. NH is a bit a ways north for C. angulifera.

Also, the white patches in the median areas of the forewings are generally much wider/whiter in C. angulifera, while in C. promethea the black scaling tends to be incorporated into the white patch, as you can see in this individual.

Thanks Ryan
Thank you for the information on the differences between the two. It's good to know for future IDs.
