Longbodied Cellar Spider 27 Days After the Eggs Hatched - Pholcus phalangioides - female

Longbodied Cellar Spider 27 Days After the Eggs Hatched - Pholcus phalangioides - Female
Brighton, Monroe County, New York, USA
July 17, 2013
The next day, the egg sac is completely out, and her abdomen is much smaller. We've come full cycle!. I always thought, perhaps as a result of reading Charlotte's Web as a kid, that spiders could have only one brood and died after laying their eggs. However, this one clearly has laid eggs twice, presumably without mating again. This batch hatched on August 3, so it was 18 days from laying to hatching.
