Grape Leaffolder - Desmia

Grape Leaffolder - Desmia
Parkwood, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
May 11, 2004
Came to my porch light and fluttered down onto the sidewalk. See comments on identification as Desmia maculalis.

Moved from Grape Leafroller.

Maybe Desmia maculalis?
I just happened upon a Desmia last night, and I went looking to ID it. I read in Covell that D. funeralis and D. maculalis are pretty similar. Bob Patterson noted that D. maculalis has a white patch on the head while D. funeralis has maybe a few white scales. So I'm wondering if the white spot on your image here is big enough to be considered a "patch?"

I'm clueless, but thanks!
Gosh, I didn't even know about the other species. I just identified this from Covell, without much care, apparently. I don't think I even knew about MPG at that time.

Thanks, maybe we should ask Bob. I'll get to that later in the week, unless you want to--be my guest.

That Much White....
... in the head spot seems to make it D. maculalis (IMHO).

Good enough for me
Roger that--sounds good.
