New Smallest Beetle !!! (for bugguide, me)

New Smallest Beetle !!! (for bugguide, me)
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
October 4, 2006
Size: about 0.5 mm
Proof! Actually I shot a number of images of these itsy bitsy things next to or over the millimeter rule, getting a range of lengths from 0.60mm to 0.47mm, with the average length being about 0.545mm. However, because the outline of both beetle and millimeter marks is indistinct, I prefer to set the size at only one significant figure until the several specimens I preserved can be measured more precisely.

mount
you'll need to get some size 0000000 pins for these! nice additions, I never imagined anyone would get live shots of the really small stuff - great.

Thanks. Don't they mount these on microscope slides?
:-)

seen several techniques
seen on slides, but more often now encapsulated in various mounting mediums that harden nicely like glass - sometimes on clear points.
