Black Mantis? - Stagmomantis limbata - female

Black Mantis? - Stagmomantis limbata - Female
Temple City, Los Angeles County, California, USA
July 31, 2013
Size: 1"
This one appeared this morning in my yard. It is a very well behaved animal, which is somewhat interested in what I have been doing: Taking its pictures. It posed nicely for me instead of running away. Pictures are taken with a hand-held camera (SONY DHC-H9) in ambient sunlight under an overcast sky and they are rotated 180 degrees. The mantis was under a leaf hanging upside down nicely.

Moved
Moved from Stagmomantis.

Dark
I've never seen one this dark. It has the body dimensions of a Stagmomantis species and the light border characteristic of S. limbata, but the photo won't enlarge any farther so I can't be certain of species.

Black Mantis...
I went outside and the mantis was still on the same plant in my yard this afternoon around 5:30 PM PDT. I took another picture of it with a little bit more detail. This may help in identifying it.

Good Shots
This is an immature female Stagmomantis species; I can't be sure of the species, although I'm inclined to go with S. limbata.
