Tachinid?
Tom, this reminds me of a Tachinid, especially Zelia, compare:

I don't know wing venation, but surely that is different between the two families. Any ideas on that?
That bulbous tip of the abdomen--is that an ovipositor or male genitalia, I wonder.

 
Sarcophaga sp.?
Patrick, I thought it might belong to the Sarcophaga.
I'm not that great with flies, what do you think?

Hey, you are way ahead of me on flies.
Sarcophaga sure looks good. I was fooled by the bristly bahookie into thinking it was a tachinid.
