Eastern, Oklahoma, USA

Cicindela sexguttata. Size 18mm
Some come without the spots. In fact I have never seen one with the spots.
Determined by Carl Stephen.

way up in Maine?!
I've seen these for the first time this spring up here in "Downeast" Maine – lobster country.(latitude 45°)

Today, I was just watching this, maybe three-quarter inch insect very quickly darting around – metallic green, very bright. And then, I saw him snap up a smallish black ant! What a battle, much energy was consumed. It looked like the larger beetle had him, but then he got away (the ant). The thwarted tiger beetle looked frantically around the immediate area – felt around, actually – he clearly couldn't see t the ant running away.

I couldn't see the six dots, but they are small and from my vantage point (a wheelchair) I couldn't be sure. Thanks for the great site.

wow!
I found one of these in my driveway today!

Moved to guide
Interesting. They all seem to have the spots here in North Carolina.

I moved this to the guide page for that species.
