Ground Beetle
Looks like a ground beetle in the genus Calosoma to me. Predatory behavior fits, too. Quite a few species, though, and they still confuse me!

 
I agree, genus Colosoma,
possibly this one.

In looking over several of your recent images I see no size information. If you want IDs for your insect images, the size is critical in many determinations, and besides, it's helpful to others who are trying to figure out what they have based on bugguide images.
