Compare the color of this hourglass to that of other species of this genus. This is the only one with the orange hourglass. They can vary from a yellow-orange to a red-orange color.

Also
note the white markings around the spinnerets that distinguish the 'black' brown widow from L. mactans, along with the lack of a red dot on the dorsal side of the spinnerets.
