Fly - Pollenia - female

Fly - Pollenia - Female
Churchville, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA
October 17, 2004
I guess that it is a muscid fly, any additional info would be greatly appreciated.
Southeastern PA

Moved
Moved from Pollenia rudis.

A female
Male Pollenia are impossible to ID from a photo; it's even worse for females. Moved to genus.

Aha!
I was beginning to wonder about this ID. I am actually glad that you moved it to genus. This is where it should be.

Cluster fly?
This looks kind of like a cluster fly (Calliphoridae: Pollenia rudis) although those that I've seen usually have fewer of those golden hairs. Perhaps something else in that genus or family? Cluster flies are parasitoids of earthworms, and often come into houses at this time of year.

Right on
Nothing wrong with the identification. The curly hairs tend to diminish in number during the lifetime of the fly, simply because they are rubbed of. I have seen almost 'bald' ones where you really had to seach for those hairs.
