Syrphid, and possible a problem
I have one almost identical awaiting ID for maybe a week. I think it's Eupeodes, per below, but feel Epistrophe is also possible. (Got bug-eyed - sorry! - looking at syrphid images.)



Many of the Eupoedes images "IDed" here still appear to be uncertain, once you read all the comments. So the puzzle remains, at least for me.

 
Lots of Flower Flies...
I submit these things without expectations of positive IDs. I'm just having fun posting "firsts" for Washington or finding something unusual...

 
Good attitude!
I've got to get back to that. Right now, I'm helping a friend build a website and am trying to get positive IDs so we don't look foolish. Result? This is getting to be too much like work!
