Arizona mantispid - Dicromantispa sayi

Arizona mantispid - Dicromantispa sayi
Florida Canyon Station, Santa Rita Experimental Range, Pima County, Arizona, USA
July 25, 2013
Size: Head to wingtips: 20 mm
Detail profile of pronotum and head. Note the small tufts of short, fine setae on the anterior and posterior tips of the dorsum of the pronotum...as well as the evident transverse ridges along the dorsum of the pronotum. Those are key characters separating D. sayi from L. pulchella. So are the tri-colored antennae here.

I've been studying Mantispidae a lot lately...one of my (numerous :-) favorite families! They are a fascinating group!
