Mantid - Genus ? - Gonatista grisea

Mantid - Genus ? - Gonatista grisea
Georgia, USA
Size: approx 5-6-cm
I've browsed but can't seem to spot this genus.

Not sure
This one has a different look than the carolina mantids I've seen. Give this a little more time....I'm going to do some research.

quick search
After a quick search I would say your specimen look more similar to Gonatista grisea or the grizzled mantid. Compare with . However, I would like to have a comprehensive list of mantids found in GA.

Confirmed
grizzled mantid by a Georgian Entomologist, Floyd Shockley, by email today.

Thanks
Thanks for your work lynnette (thanks to Floyd),
I saw this post today at work (can't post from work).
I was in agreement with the photo already at BG.
I missed it when I was browsing.
Hopefully this will depict the wide wing coverfor this species.
The existing photos (except the one you posted) aren't too clear on the back end of the mantid.

Looks like a Stagmomantis car
Looks like a Stagmomantis carolina, but I could be incorrect.
