Little Spotted Millipede - Blaniulus guttulatus

Little Spotted Millipede - Blaniulus guttulatus
Seattle, King County, Washington, USA
October 8, 2006
Size: 11mm long
Looks similar to ...
I couldn't get a shot of it's head because it was proceeding to disappear in the grass. I tried to grab it, but it was so teeny that it just slipped out of my grasp. It was only about a millimeter across and I didn't want to injure it. (Millipedes have very brittle "shells" because of the calcium content).

Blaniulidae
This very narrow millipede (about the width of a pencil lead) is juvenile of an introduced European species of the family Blaniulidae, which also has a native species in North America. With the red spots, representing the defensive glands, on each segment throughout most of the body, I believe this is Blaniulus guttulatus.
