House Centipede ?? Question Regarding Genus Page Info - Scutigera

House Centipede ?? Question Regarding Genus Page Info - Scutigera
Timonium, Baltimore County, Maryland, USA
August 6, 2013
At the Genus Scutigera info page there is a line in the "Numbers" section that states "one adventive and 1-4 native spp. in our area(1), ~30 spp. worldwide(2)". I am only finding one species under this Genus (House Centipede - Scutigera coleoptrata). Is that what this is and are there more native species in North America I should be aware of? Thanks!

taxonomy is dynamic!
The taxonomy of scutigeropmorph centipedes is complex and still not fully resolved. Some species are widespread, others localized, and many named species have been found to be the same species, so species numbers are approximate and may vary depending on author. This is most likely S. coleoptrata, the widespread house centipede introduced from Europe. At least one other species is known from the U.S., Dendrothereua homa (formerly Scutigera homa) from the extreme American Southwest, but some authors suspect this species may actually contain as-yet-undescribed species.
