Small female Mutillid - Dasymutilla birkmani - Female
4 miles West of Winnsboro, Wood County, Texas, USA
June 16, 2013
Size: ~ 5mm
Same size as recent small mutillid submitted (Pseudomethoca frigida). But this one has a completely different shaped head and body. Ventral image to follow, any help in ID appreciated.

Great find!
This is Dasymutilla birkmani. It's not super rare, but I guess small size kept it out of the guide for a while. Great shots!
