Unknown Spider - Eris Flava ? - Eris

Looks a little like a larger, fuzzier version of

Eris issues
Don,
Don't sweat it. The lighting on this one is a little tough so the bronze scales don't stand out as much. It took me awhile to make up my mind.

Bill,
Sorry, I really can't go much further without having the specimen in my hand. The only confirmed flava photos I'm aware of are on Wayne Maddison's tolweb page, and I will say that your does resemble that one.

This genus seems 'messy' right now, and probably will be until a formal revision takes place.
From Proszynski's statement, Eris no longer has a type species.
Edward's photo of rufa (recent name change) doesn't match Kaston's drawing or description.

And for BugGuide's part: I don't agree with the placement of the Tom's photos in flava, and I think Jeff's male militaris may actually be flava but I'm not sure how he identified it.

Last weekend I just started examining palps on my male Eris specimens, all militaris so far, and should have a couple online soon. Very tedious work. :-)

This appears to be...
a Phidippus purpuratus. Nice image.

Hmmm
Now that you have me pointed in the right direction.
What about Phidippus putnami rather than Phidippus purpuratus ?

Try Eris
This looks like a female Eris to me.

edit: sorry, immature female Eris.

Jay
OK. How about Eris flava ?

Yes Jay,
you're right. Good correction. With as many Eris as we see, I shouldn't have made that mistake.

Don
Thanks for the ID and the positive feedback on the image.
This individual was more wary of the camera than most.
