We saw these perfectly symmetric miniature volcano mounds out in the desert. Didn't see the ants. Feel free to frass. gathering_2013

These are mainly nocturnal/crepuscular, which is why you didn't see the ants. Without an image of the animal, no ID possible, but the picture of this characteristic crater of excavated soil made by various pecies in the genus is very typical, so worth keeping, I think.
